You shout and wave. When you're sure you have the creature's full attention, you quickly aim and fire before it decides to charge. Just as you pull the trigger, it opens its mouth and inhales in preparation for a battery of noise.

THUNK. A look of something close to surprise flashes over its face before being replaced with pure discomfort. The shell has lodged perfectly in its trachea, blocking it completely. You think the shells are impact triggered, and assume the soft flesh was enough to cushion this one sufficiently.

The creature is making wet gurgling noises. You could try to hit the shell to set it off, but you definitely don't want to be anywhere near it when it does go.
